Weekly Newsletter - 5th May 2024

Dear parishioners,

There was a good turnout for the first of the parish gatherings on Wednesday evening. We talked in small groups which meant that everyone was able to have their say. On the whole, people understand why the Irish Jesuits want this parish to become part of the Pro-Cathedral parish. With far fewer Jesuits available we can’t cover all the bases anymore and partnership with those around us represents the best way forward. That said, it will still be an adjustment and a letting go.

The second parish gathering, which will take place in St Kevin’s oratory in the Pro-Cathedral on Thursday 16th May at 7:15 pm, will be more forward looking. On Wednesday we took note of the questions people have about the changes and having had a chance to reflect on them the plan is to answer these as best we can. I will take a back seat and you will hear more Fr Kieran McDermott and Deacon Tom Groves from the Pro-Cathedral.

Some people were late in hearing the news about the parish amalgamation, so this second meeting is a chance for them to come and be heard. Despite our best efforts to get the word out, we still rely on word of mouth to reach people who don’t come to Mass regularly, so please spread the word.

Please also remember in your prayers Fr Paul Farquarson SJ whose funeral Mass we celebrated here on Friday. He was a special man and priest.

 Every blessing,

 Fr Niall
