Weekly Newsletter - 25th August 2024

Dear Friends,

Welcome!  I have just returned from a very enjoyable holiday in Donegal with Fr. Richard. I hope that you all managed to get a break during the summer, or are still planning to do so.  Most schools will be back to work this week.  We might remember to pray for the teachers and students in the schools in our area.

In September, Margaret Brennan will be taking over as choir director and will lead our singing at the 11.00Mass on Sundays.  I encourage you all tosing along with Margaret.

We might remember the words of St.Augustine: ‘He (she) who sings, prays twice!’

Fr. Brendan

FEAST OF ST. MONICA – 27TH AUGUST

In this coming week we will celebrate the feasts of Saint Monica (Wednesday), the mother of Saint Augustine, and of Augustine himself (Thursday). Augustine famously wrote of his conversion to Christianity:

Late have I loved you, O Beauty so ancient and so new; late have I loved you! For behold, you were within me, and I outside; and I sought you outside and, in my ugliness, fell upon those lovely things that you have made. You were with me and I was not with you.  I was kept from you by those things, yet had they not been in you, they would not have been

at all.  You called and cried out to me and broke open my deafness; and you sent forth your beams and shone upon me, and chased away my blindness: you breathed fragrance upon me, and I drew in my breath and do now pant for you: I tasted you, and now hunger and thirst for you: you touched me, and I have burned for your peace.
